Quaker prison chaplains
In recent weeks the death has occurred of a Quaker prisoner. During his time in prison he was visited by Ann, the prison’s Quaker chaplain.

After his death a number of his fellow prisoners asked if a Memorial Meeting could be held at the prison. Permission was granted and Ann asked Friends if they would be willing to attend, realising that quite a number had never been in a prison before. On the day eleven Friends came to support her. After identifying ourselves and being searched, we were led up to the prison chapel where we were joined by some fifteen prisoners. Ann explained how Quaker worship was conducted. There followed a period of respectful quiet. After the Meeting we were able to meet and talk with the prisoners.
