Chris Holman argues that the government deserves praise for its mental health policy
It’s not every day that you get an opportunity to approve of what government is up to, so here’s something to read if you want one. Something good is going on in the Department of Health (DoH): for radical thinking in mental health care, they’re the people to go to just now.
This report from the DoH Mental Health Division proposes a change in the understanding of, and response to, mental health difficulties in our society. It has sprung from a true collaboration of interest groups through a period of consultation in which people using mental health services, providers of services, interest groups, mental health charities and anyone else who wanted to, genuinely appear to have taken part. There is a website associated with the New Horizons venture, which will be the central point of exchange for future ideas and actions as they emerge.
