Trudi Warner arrested again
Quaker Trudi Warner was arrested again last week for holding a placard telling jurors of their legal right to acquit defendants
Quaker Trudi Warner was arrested again last week, outside Woolwich Crown Court, for displaying the same sign she was imprisoned for holding three years ago.
The retired social worker was originally arrested for contempt of court, when she held a placard telling jurors of their legal right to acquit defendants. She was supporting climate activists banned from citing the climate as motivation.
A video of Trudi Warner’s arrest shows her being handcuffed and carried into a police van. The next day eleven more people were arrested.
In 2023 Trudi’s situation led to widespread outrage, sparking the Defend Our Juries campaign, which many Quakers support. She was acquitted in 2024.
This time the pensioner was arrested for breaching a Section 14 order, which allows police to impose conditions ‘if they reasonably believe an assembly may cause serious public disorder, serious damage to property, or serious disruption to the life of the community’. Protest within one mile of Woolwich Crown Court has been banned during the retrial of PA activists.
