Shared faith

Our Friend Rachel Muers’ account of the World Council of Churches Conference on Faith & Order (12 December 2025) said that the conference topic was ‘Where Now for Visible Unity?’

I find this sentence resonates for me: the conference was not mainly about a shared expression of faith, it was about a shared faith expressed.

Instead of starting from a point of disunity (where we have to agree on what our faith is) the conversation, and the resulting action, starts with acknowledging that the faith we share can be expressed in a multitude of ways. And this stance carries over into my work in interfaith relations.

Thank you Rachel.

Timely reminder

The illustration on the cover of the double-week Christmas issue (19 & 26 December 2025) was a timely reminder of how Christmas should be celebrated. Tony D’Souza’s article (‘Christmas 1914’) added considerable detail, but for those wanting to know even more about this memorable event there is the account by Henry Williamson, who was in the war. In fact he provided several accounts, including letters home, newspaper accounts, and book extracts. These can be reached by searching online for ‘Henry Williamson’s accounts of the first world war Christmas truce’.
